Xavier hosted the 21st annual All Honors Day program on April 20. Over 300 students were recognized for their academic, athletic and leadership excellence. The day’s events took place on various campus locations where family and friends were able to celebrate Xavier students’ achievements.
The program kicked off with its first event, the Academic Honors Convocation at 9 a.m. in the James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center in Cintas Center.
“This year, 81 awards from all subject matters were given to over 140 students for their academic achievement,” Director of Events Kelly King said.
The awards presented included the Kramer-Miller Mathematics Award, the VJ Bieliauskas Psychology Award and the Nursing Mission Award.
The first awards were given at Scholar-Athlete ceremony, which took place at 11:30 a.m. in the theatre in Gallagher Student Center. The event honored over 155 students who demonstrated excellence both academically and athletically.
The student leader assembly event soon followed in the Conaton Board Room of Schmidt Hall.
“The Student Leader Assembly honored students for their co-curricular contributions to the Xavier community,” Assistant Director for Leadership and Orientation in the Office of Student involvement Molly Dugan said.
These students played key roles in Xavier’s student government, club activities or other organizations sponsored by the Division of Student Life and Leadership.
During the Alpha Sigma Nu Induction ceremony, held at 4 p.m., in the Catherine and Lawrence Kennedy Lecture Hall in the Conaton Learning Commons 44 new students were inducted.
Induction into Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors offered on a Jesuit campus and the candidates that were selected displayed outstanding scholarship, loyalty and service to the university.
The final event of the program was the All Honors Day Mass that took place at 5:30 p.m. in the James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center.
Fr. Albert Bischoff, S.J. presided over the mass, which was held as a spiritual celebration to commemorate the various achievements of all of the students from the past academic year.
