With a multitude of close races coming to an end, the midterm elections mark a historic cycle By Joseph Nichols, Pat Gainor and Logan Davis, Staff Writers Ohio’s 1st District Cincinnati Councilmember Greg Landsman (D) upset incumbent Ohio Representative Steve Chabot (R) to win Ohio’s 1st Congressional District last Tuesday. After a spirited campaign battle that cost both parties a collective $11 million in advertising, Landsman gained 62% of the vote in Hamilton County, which includes Xavier. By Ethan Nichols, World News Editor Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) and his Lieutenant Governor, Jon Husted, won reelection with 62.8% of the vote, defeating their Democratic opponents, former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, and Cuyahoga County Councilmember Cheryl Stephens. Author of the 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy JD Vance (R) bested his Democratic opponent, Congressman Tim Ryan (D) with a margin of 53-46%. Ryan outperformed the rest of the Democratic ticket. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) dispatched Forest Park City Councilmember Chelsea Clark (D) 59-39%. Yale grad students move forward with unionization

By Joseph Nichols, Staff Writer Yale’s union for graduate student workers, Local 33, which remains unrecognized by the university, has set off a process with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to become recognized as a union after more than 30 years. This would become the 14th graduate student union at a private university, 12 of which have been created since 2015.  Before Local 33’s creation, graduate student workers have made efforts to unionize. Since the 1980s, Yale graduate students have attempted to receive recognition as a union.
