Xavier Women’s Golf Wins Big East Championship

By Hannah Wolke, Digital Communications Manager

For the sixth straight season, Xavier women’s golf stood alone atop the Big East, clinching the 2025 conference championship. The Musketeers traveled to Hardeeville, S.C. for the tournament, where they held a 54-hole total of 876 (+12).

The team finished 23 strokes ahead of runner-up Georgetown, marking the largest margin of victory at the Big East Championship since 2003. The six straight titles are also a new conference record.

Senior Emma Welch led the charge, capturing individual medalist honors for the second consecutive year. Her even-par total of 216 was punctuated by a final-round, 4-under-par 68 — the lowest single round of the entire tournament.

With the win, she became just the second golfer in Big East history to claim multiple individual titles, joining Creighton’s Katharine Lemke (2022, 2023). Welch, a Lakeville, Minn. native, now owns five career top-10 finishes and two individual tournament victories in Big East play.

Right behind her was junior Madison Reemsnyder, whose finish at 2-over 218 earned her second place. Her closing round of 2-under 70 helped Xavier pull even further ahead in the final stretch.

The rest of the lineup played a key role in the team’s success as well. Senior Kara Carter tied for third at four-over, while first-year Isabel Brozena and graduate student Eleanor Hudepohl each tied for eighth at 10-over. All five Xavier golfers finished in the top 10 individually, as Xavier’s depth was a major factor in securing their sixth straight Big East title.

A large part of the Musketeers success was their improvement throughout the tournament. After opening with a 298 (+10), they would go on to shoot a 294 (+6) on day two as they closed shooting a 284 (-4) on the final day.

With the conference title secured, the Musketeers now shift their focus to the NCAA postseason. The Musketeers are the 11 seed in their region, as they have the fortune of playing just two hours away as they were placed in the Columbus region.

The Musketeers look to carry forward their positive momentum as the NCAA regionals will be played May 5 through 7, with the top teams advancing to the NCAA championships in Carlsbad, Calif., from May 16through 21.
