Xavier University and Cincinnati Reds Team-Up Hits it Out of the Park

By Layla Tiell, Newswire Intern

Xavier has been named the official university of the Cincinnati Reds, marking the beginning of a 10-year commitment between the two. The partnership was announced by President Colleen Hanycz and Red principal owner Bob Castellini on Jan. 12.

Xavier is deeply rooted in the local community and connecting with one of Cincinnati’s most recognizable franchises, likely will open many doors for the university’s students.  Opportunities that involve academics, student involvement and professional development are in the near future for students, especially in sports management or related programs.

Students are now able to take their next step into hands-on learning with internships, job shadowing and Reds’ participation in university classrooms. While the partnership showcases Xavier’s commitment to career readiness and experiential learning, the Reds will also benefit greatly from this new commitment.

Potential Reds initiatives could include student-led marketing campaigns, content collaborations and social media activations aimed at engaging college-aged kids. These would allow students to work directly with professional marketing strategies while contributing fresh new ideas.

Castellini has expressed his excitement, mentioning Xavier’s future-focused mindset and that uniting the two will make a difference. Reds staff will continue to receive education benefits and also gain direct access to a passionate group of students with a wide variety of skills and assets. This exchange of resources and expertise shows that education and professional sports can cross paths to promote long-term growth for both organizations.

From a sports marketing standpoint, students can recognize the value in this type of collaboration.

“I am interested in working in social media marketing for a pro sports team, and working with an organization like the Cincinnati Reds would provide valuable, hands-on experience,” First-year sports marketing major Lily Krebs said. “Being able to work directly with a professional team would help me develop and strengthen important skills and prepare me for a career in the sports industry.”

With Xavier’s presence at Reds events and the Reds’ visibility on campus, both brands are already promoted across multiple platforms.

The Reds have teamed up with Xavier for a 10-year partnership that may spark new opportunities for students.

The partnership also highlights Xavier’s growing presence in Cincinnati’s sports community. By becoming the official university of the Reds’, Xavier shows its commitment to the city’s culture and future.

“This long-term partnership brings together two of Cincinnati’s most storied and influential institutions, building on their shared strengths and deep roots in the region. Together, Xavier and the Reds will enhance academic opportunities for students and create new pathways for hands-on learning connected to one of Major League Baseball’s most historic franchises,” Dr. Hancyz stated.

As the 10-year partnership begins, both Xavier and the Reds are focused on building a relationship that can grow and change over time. Students and staff can anticipate a collaboration that adapts to the changes in the sports industry.
