Xavier’s New Red’s Pass Hits it Out of the Park

By Gavin Guffey, Staff Writer

The Cincinnati Reds’ new “Xavier Pass” allows Xavier students to attend all home games March 28 to May 14 for $29.99.

Xavier students will be able to go to all 23 home games from March 28 to May 14 with the pass. After purchasing their pass, students can check in after 9 a.m. the day of the game they want to attend.

Seats for students will be upper level, and if they wish to upgrade, they have the option to, for an extra fee. Students can be seated with one another if they please by creating a group on the MLB Ballpark App, along with including guests who do not have a pass for a discounted price on their ticket.

Developments like the Xavier Reds Pass can help get students in the door who may not necessarily be Reds fans but appreciate the sport of baseball and want to go for the experience.

“I grew up playing softball and going to Guardians games, and the Akron RubberDucks were always huge in my family,” junior nursing major Kaleigh Cunningham said. “The games are always so lively and fun, so I knew that getting to go to and experience a Cincinnati Reds was important, especially at such a nice price.”

Xavier’s new partnership with the Reds, gives students the ability to get discounted tickets to games.

However, there are some drawbacks, “The only note I would make sure people know is you have to add on a guest when you confirm, you can not add on a guest later,” Cunningham said.

This development is part of the larger 10-year partnership between Xavier and the Reds that was announced on Jan. 12 of this year. Both brands are attempting to provide mutually beneficial developments for each other.

“We will create ample opportunities for the people who make our two storied organizations so special. I could not be more thrilled at the benefits this will provide for Xavier students and employees in the decade ahead,” Xavier President Dr. Colleen Hanycz stated in a Jan. 12 press release.

“Uniting the strengths of Xavier students, faculty, teams, and alumni with the passion of the Reds’ fanbase and operations will make a lasting impact for years to come,” Reds Principal Owner and Managing Partner Bob Castellini said.

Another recent development because of the 10-year partnership between the two entities is the new Professional Selling Practicum, a course at Xavier dedicated to selling professional sports tickets. Students are now able to sell Reds tickets as part of this course.

Other upcoming events in the partnership include Xavier Night on April 24, where the first 500 fans to purchase a ticket receive a Xavier Reds hat. Additionally there is the Cincinnati doubleheader on May 14, where the Xavier baseball team will host the Creighton University Bluejays following the Reds and Washington Nationals.
