It feels like it was just yesterday that I started my Xavier career. Now, I am less than three weeks away from graduating from a place near and dear to my heart. I have felt a whirlwind of emotions the past few weeks thinking about graduation, but I have made the most of my final weeks here.
As a graduating senior, it is all too easy to get caught up in the sadness of saying bye to the dozens, if not hundreds, of people that you may have met during your four years at Xavier. While graduating is bittersweet, I have tried to focus on the positives rather than the negatives as much as possible.
My message to seniors is to focus on achievements rather than lament leaving. For me personally, I have a lot to be thankful for. Thanks to Xavier, I achieved what I thought would be impossible and traveled to all seven continents, thanks to Dr. Leon. In 2024, I witnessed a total solar eclipse in Oxford, Ohio because of Xavier’s Physics Club. With Xavier’s pep band, I travelled to New York City, Connecticut and Milwaukee, having a blast representing Xavier for the general public.

This is just a snapshot of all the amazing memories I have had at Xavier. Whenever I feel sad about graduating, I remind myself that these feelings mean I made the right choice attending Xavier. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to make so many amazing memories here.
I joined Newswire last August due to schedule conflicts making me unable to attend Film & TV Club meetings. However, over the course of the semester, Newswire bloomed into a really fun part of my week. I grew to like it so much that I continued writing for Newswire this semester alongside Film & TV Club.
Although I was only at Newswire for my senior year, I have made many good memories here. I really liked writing my articles about the Cincinnati Auto Expo and Xavier volleyball. But my favorite article that I have written is my currency reform article, because of how creative I was with it, particularly the suggested colors for each bill denomination.
John Stowell has been a great advisor, mentor and friend to me over the course of this school year. It was always interesting to hear his stories about journalism. I knew Editor-in-Chief Clare McKinley from classes we had together as communications majors, so it was fun hanging out with her in a different setting.
Sports Editor Luke Essig was the first Newswire editor I wrote for (my Premier League recap article from September). I will miss the sports banter and conversations we had during meetings. Last but not least, it was nice getting to know Local & National Editor Will Coffman. Even though I did not know him very well before this year, we became really close over the course of this year and I am thankful for our friendship.
To conclude, I want to thank each and every one of you who have read my articles this year. Newswire gave me the forum to write about topics I am passionate about and I had a ton of fun sharing what I wrote with the Xavier community.
Thank you to my Newswire colleagues for being so welcoming to me this year. Even though I joined as a senior, the bonds we forged this year makes me feel like I have been in Newswire all four years, which is a testament to the great people I spent my Wednesday evenings with.
Lastly, to my fellow Xavier students, I will miss you all dearly. These last four years have been the best four years of my life and I will cherish the memories we made together. To quote Billie Joe Armstrong: “I hope you had the time of your life. I know I did!”
