Cincinnati edge out Kansas City at AFC Championship game By Joe Clark, Sports Editor The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in the AFC Championship game, clinching the team’s third trip to the Super Bowl, the first since 1989. Cincinnati trailed 21-10 at the half after trailing 21-3 earlier in the game. We’re a sad bunch, watching our team lose year after year and doing our best to fend off the doubters. The past 31 years, which is how long it’s been since Cincinnati football won a playoff game, have been tough to stick out. That’s about one-and-a-half times the entire lives of most Xavier undergraduate students. Ethics and implications of purchasing patriotism

By: Taylor Zachary ~Staff Writer~ The Department of Defense (DOD) paid $6.8 million in taxpayer money and Defense funds to professional sports teams to “fund patriotism,” according to a 2016 Senate report. When Republican Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake began looking into Defense spending on military tributes, they found that the New Jersey Army National Guard paid the New York Jets $377,000 over four years. In any given season, the Jets received an average of $115,000 to simply recognize soldiers during time-outs and half-time performances.
