Cincinnati Spotlight: Arthur’s Attracts Craving Customers

By Christian Cullen, Staff Writer

Arthur’s is a cozy little burger spot located a short seven-minute drive away from Xavier in Hyde Park. It has a homely atmosphere with lighting that feels extremely welcoming. With an assortment of tables and booths, Arthur’s can support either a catch-up with that one friend you have not chatted with in a while or a big family gathering. This Saturday, the restaurant was adorned with celebrations after a Xavier win against DePaul.

For a small burger pub, the menu spans quite a distance. There are a variety of appetizers, ranging from fried cheese (a Midwest classic) to a burger with wings – the best combo a burger could have. There are also some salads and soups to choose from. I began my Arthur’s experience with a nice bowl of chili, given that it was quite cringe on Saturday. While I normally prefer chili to have noodles in it, it was still a tasty start. I may just have high chili standards.

The burger menu is quite expansive. However, it shines when it comes to grilling some just good old-fashioned burgers of many varieties. As would be expected for a place called Arthur’s, there is the Arthur’s Burger. There are breakfast burgers, as well as a burger named after the Anderson neighborhood.

This burger comes with cheddar cheese, bacon, sauteed onions and enough barbecue sauce to make a grill master blush. The fries that came alongside the burger were the perfect mix of crispy on the outside and fluffy like a cloud on the inside. Truly, a wonderful burger experience that I will treasure forever.

The restaurant experience was top-notch as well. Arthur’s has the appearance and feel of a simple tavern. It was not too loud in the restaurant and there wasn’t any music playing either. The emphasis of this establishment seemed to be on the conversation, which I appreciated. Too often restaurants overdo it, complicating a pretty simple exchange. You do not need all the bells and whistles, but rather just the right people and the right food, to have a good time.

If there is one drawback, it would be the price. While not overly expensive, there are more affordable options around that are at the same level of quality. Arthur’s is a good place to ask your parents to take you when they visit. It’s not otherworldly expensive; the burgers are all about 12 to 18 dollars, and with a soda it’s about 20 bucks total, without an appetizer. However, the quality of that food and the experience make it feel like the price tag is worth it. No place is perfect, but I can tell you for sure, that Arthur’s is worth the price.
