Dining, Parking, Oh My: SGA Notes

By Rory McNelley, Education and Enrichment Coordinator

This week, Senior Director of Auxiliary Services Bill Moran visited the Student Government Association to provide updates on his department’s goals for the semester.

Auxiliary Services is in charge of many aspects of on-campus life, including the One Pass, dining, parking, mail and package services, vending and laundry. They supervise contracts such as Better Blend, Chartwells and Currito for dining services and oversee the All for One Shop inventory.

Priorities include holding focus groups to review dining services this spring, increasing communication with Accessibility and Disability resources, partnering with the Sedler Center, piloting a package locker program in the fall and deciding what steps to take when Xavier’s Pepsi contract ends later this year.

Spring focus groups for dining aim to improve the Caf’s allergen station for students with dietary restrictions and a partnership with the Sedler Center will aim to provide more student-run businesses like Better Blend.

Senators raised questions about game day parking and the communication about moving cars with students, fixing broken ice and vending machines in the residence halls, the possibility of Name, Image and Likeness apparel in the All for One Shops on campus and continued improvement to the H-Lot.

Moran also received feedback regarding the success of this semester’s book pickup compared to previous years and requests for a platform that provides information about the availability of laundry machines.

In other news:

  • Questions were raised about improving the connectedness of the campus community by joining the Commons Apartments to Wasson Way with a stairwell in the embankment.
  • With Lent coming up, recommendations were made for more meatless options on Fridays for Catholic students.
