Cross Country season begins

By: Matt Stainbrook ~Guest Writer~ The Xavier men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Queen City Invitational this past Friday, finishing fifth and second respectively. The race took place at Kingswood Park in Mason, Ohio, and was hosted by Northern Kentucky University. As the season was beginning both teams were looking for strong starts to the season. Hot temperatures made for a tough test for all runners as they ran the five-kilometer race. Volleyball team shows success in Missouri

By: Adam Purvis ~Guest Writer~ After sweeping its first invitational, Xavier women’s volleyball headed to the University of Missouri last weekend for the 2014 Mizzou Tiger Invitational with hopes of taking another three game sweep. The Musketeers first faced the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies on Sept. 5 and won 3-0. While taking every set, the Musketeers broke ties multiple times in the first set and won after a 12 point breakaway 25-11. In the second set, Xavier was up 20-14 with hopes to put the Golden Grizzlies away when Oakland caught fire with five unanswered points. Soccer sweeps weekend games

By: Brendan Burris ~Guest Writer~ Xavier men’s soccer played two games this weekend and earned two wins. The Musketeers took a 4-2 road win versus Bradley University on Sept. 5 and a 1-0 overtime victory against Cornell at the Xavier University Soccer Complex on Sept 7. In the first game, the Musketeers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime. Junior Alex Ridsdale and freshman Matt Vasquenza scored goals, both their firsts in a Musketeer uniform.
