Cincinnati edge out Kansas City at AFC Championship game By Joe Clark, Sports Editor The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in the AFC Championship game, clinching the team’s third trip to the Super Bowl, the first since 1989. Cincinnati trailed 21-10 at the half after trailing 21-3 earlier in the game. We’re a sad bunch, watching our team lose year after year and doing our best to fend off the doubters. The past 31 years, which is how long it’s been since Cincinnati football won a playoff game, have been tough to stick out. The Bengals tied a franchise record with a 6-0 start, something that has not been accomplished since 1988 when the Bengals last went to the Super Bowl. Before the season started, the media questioned the Bengals’ ability to win big games and Andy Dalton’s abilities as quarterback, and so far the team has answered those questions emphatically.
