NHL Playoffs Start

By: Andrew Utz ~Staff Writer~ Last Wednesday marked the start of the NHL Playoffs, with 16 teams facing off for the Stanley Cup. Each team has played three to four games. Starting in the Western Conference bracket, the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild have gone back and forth in Missouri. The Wild stole the first game of the series, but the Blues held on through the second game to tie the series at one. The third and fourth games will be played in Minnesota. Blue Jackets struggle, league’s top performers emerge

By: Andrew Utz ~Staff Writer~ season play, the Columbus Blue Jackets are still trying to find their rhythm. The Jackets travelled to New Jersey to play the Devils on Nov. 1. Despite scoring goals in the both the first and second periods, Columbus fell to New Jersey, 3-2, putting the Jackets’ record at 4-7. The Blue Jackets led the Devils in shots with a 34 to 29 advantage, but had trouble beating Devil’s goalkeeper Corey Schneider. Hockey season quickly approaches

By: Andrew Utz ~Staff Writer~ With a little more than a week left until the National Hockey League (NHL) season officially begins, Xavier students are strapping on their skates in preparation. The season begins Oct. 8, with the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto. The Columbus Blue Jackets start on Oct. 9, going to Buffalo, to play the Sabres. The Blue Jackets went 43-32 last season and were knocked out in the first round as a wildcard team.
