With nothing but the Reds to hold Cincinnati sports fans until football season, we might as well take a way-too-early look at the 2016-17 Musketeers. Butler beatdown: Xavier wins big

By: Isabel Smith ~Staff Writer~ After a tough weekday loss to an unranked Creighton squad, the Musketeers went in search of redemption at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday where Xavier defeated the Butler Bulldogs 74-57. The Musketeers improved to 22-3 overall and 10-3 against Big East opponents. The Musketeers started the Creighton game on Feb. 9 going only 2-of-15 from the floor. Xavier looked for a stronger start in the game against Butler. The Musketeers were able to hit four of the initial five shots, two of which were three pointers. Georgetown upsets No. 5 Xavier

By: Brent Raines ~Sports Editor~ Game Summary: Xavier split a pair of Big East conference games in the past week, winning at Marquette before being upset at home against Georgetown. The 74-66 road victory over the Golden Eagles (12-6, 2-4 Big East) on Jan. 16 was led by senior forward James Farr, who scored 16 points in addition to a careerhigh 19 rebounds. Marquette rushed out to an 18-11 lead, but a 21-0 run by the Musketeers gave them the lead for good. Marquette never came within seven points of the Musketeers for the remainder of the game.
