Xavier mourns loss of professor

By: Justin Worthing ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier community mourned the loss of economics professor and former Williams College of Business (WCB) Dean Dr. Michael Webb. Webb died on Feb. 1 at age 62 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Originally from Texas, Webb taught at the University of Kentucky before coming to Xavier in 1997. After serving as the WCB Dean from 1997 to 2003, he worked as the chair of Xavier’s economics department before stepping down in 2010 for health reasons. Mermaid Tavern dives into literature

By: Justin Worthing ~Staff Writer~ Four professors from Xavier’s English Department are trying to create a more tight-knit community of English majors and minors through the informal Mermaid Tavern club. The club, which meets every other Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Hinkle 201, provides a space for students and faculty to discuss books, practice creative writing and enjoy literature- themed games. Fellowship provides global research opportunites

By: Justin Worthing ~Staff Writer~ Xavier’s Brueggeman Center for Dialogue is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 Winter-Cohen Family Brueggeman Fellows Program, an independently-organized, funded international research trip for eight to 10 students. Applications will be accepted until March 23, and the list of new Fellows will be announced during the week of April 13. Students who apply must write a two-page statement explaining why they want to become a Brueggeman Fellow and what type of research they want to conduct.
