Xavier falls to Marquette, reducing their chances of March Madness

Written By: Jake Geiger, Staff Writer Xavier ended their regular season campaign in a disappointing fashion, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 66-59 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. With its win, Marquette improved to 13-13 and 8-11 in the Big East, while Xavier fell to 13-7 and 6-7 in the Big East. The Musketeers are now at risk of missing March Madness, according to several bracketologists.  Xavier adjusted the starting lineup on Saturday, inserting freshman wing C.J. Wilcher for senior forward Jason Carter. Two for the road: Women’s basketball drops a pair

By: Donnie Menke ~Staff Writer~ It was a tough week for women’s basketball, dropping both of their games, losing 82-52 on the road against DePaul and losing on the road at Marquette 74-69. Xavier went into the game against DePaul with a three-game winning streak in the Big East. Xavier moved to 17-7 (8-5) on the season, while the DePaul Blue Demons improved to 20-7 (12-2). Imani Partlow was the team’s leading scorer with a career-high 11 points. Partlow was also the team’s leading rebounder, grabbing five boards. By: Adam Tortelli ~Staff Writer~ Game summary: Xavier men’s basketball continued its historic season this past week with hard-fought victories over the St. John’s Red Storm and the Golden Eagles of Marquette University before dropping an ugly game to the Creighton Bluejays. Xavier entered its Feb. 3 matchup with St. John’s (7-18, 0-12 Big East) favored by 23.5 points, but faced much stiffer competition than expected in a 90-83 win.
