Men’s team knocks down DePaul, Georgetown

By: Nick McGill ~Sports Editor~ Xavier men’s basketball team continued its home dominance defeating the DePaul Blue Demons Jan. 24 at Cintas Center. After scoring the first basket of the game on an assist from senior center Matt Stainbrook to senior guard Dee Davis, the Musketeer defense struggled to stop the surging Blue Demons. Xavier allowed DePaul to shoot 19-30 from the field and 11-19 from 3-point range while struggling in the opening minutes to score. New donation supports head coach position

By: Nick McGill ~Sports Editor~ The Xavier University athletic department is set to receive a large gift to endow the men’s basketball coach position. Tom and Genny Sedler are giving Xavier the largest donation ever to its athletic department. The donation will go exclusively to funding the head coaching position, and this is the first endowed coaching position at Xavier. Endowment of coaching positions has become somewhat of a trend in college sports, first seen in college football. Tom Sedler is president and CEO of Home City Ice, a Cincinnati-based ice manufacturer and deliverer. He took over the company in the 1980s from his father, who started the company in 1924. Postseason awards handed out

By: Nick McGill ~Sports Editor~ The Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) honored Xavier men’s soccer head coach Andy Fleming as the Coach of the Year. Fleming joined four Xavier student-athletes to be recognized with postseason honors. The OCSA compiles All-Ohio teams consisting of the best athletes among represented soccer programs in the state. Senior goalkeeper Eric Osswald, senior midfielder Will Walker and freshman Cory Brown were selected to the All-Ohio first team, and senior midfielder Garrett Halfhill was voted to the second team.
