Xavier suffers first loss of the season, falling 82-70 to Iowa State

By Joe Clark, Sports Editor The Xavier Musketeers lost their first game of the season on Wednesday night, falling 82-70 to the Iowa State Cyclones. Izaiah Brockington had 30 points for the Cyclones, while Paul Scruggs struggled, shooting 1-14. Xavier got off to a slow start, missing their first five field goals and turning the ball over twice before a made three by senior guard Paul Scruggs. Muskies take down No. 19 Ohio State

By Joe Clark, Sports Editor Iowa transfer junior Jack Nunge and senior guard Paul Scruggs came through for Xavier men’s basketball as they upset No. 19 Ohio State 71-65 in a game Xavier never trailed. The win moved the Big East to 5-2 in the Gavitt Games. Xavier got out to an early 6-2 lead and their level of effort on the defensive side of the ball was the highest it’s been all season. Scruggs leads Xavier to win in opener

By Joe Clark, Sports Editor It certainly wasn’t a pretty , but Xavier kicked off their season with a 63-60 win over Niagara on Tuesday night at Cintas Center. Xavier got out to a 13-5 lead on the strength of four three-pointers, but a 6-0 Niagara run cut that lead to 13-11 with 10:53 left in the first half.
