By Will Pembroke, Show Manager Xavier’s women’s soccer team moved to 4-0 on the season with two impressive victories last weekend over Murray State University and archrival University of Cincinnati. Last Thursday, the Musketeers outdueled UC 1-0 on their home turf. An impressive defensive performance led the way for Xavier, as they only allowed six shots with just three on goal for the Bearcats. Senior goalie Olivia Jenkins added to her shutout total for the year, recording three saves to boot. By Jake Geiger, Staff Writer Xavier women’s soccer is looking forward to “hitting the ground running” when their season starts in August, according to Head Coach Nate Lie. “We’re just excited to get back on the field to make it right,” Lie said. Last season, the women’s team went 3-6 in an atypical spring season. By Jake Geiger, Staff Writer Despite a 3-7-1 record in a pandemic-necessitated spring season, Xavier men’s soccer Head Coach Andy Fleming said the team still had a good year considering all the challenges brought on by COVID-19. With last year’s spring season in the rearview, Xavier is looking forward to getting back out there in the fall. “Our performances were good, our metrics were positive, we were disciplined and stayed the course, but our scores weren’t good,” Fleming said about the team last spring.
