With basketball season right around the corner and men’s and women’s soccer conference seasons in full swing, barely any attention has been placed on the strong men’s and women’s golf fall season, which have had plenty of highlights of their own.
With the fall season wrapping up and winter fast approaching, the teams have finished the season strong, posting career best scores at recent tournaments.
At the Ball State Cardinal Classic, where the team tied for fifth out of 16, senior Shane Crutchfield shot a career low three under par 69 on day one, which was followed by sophomore Hanna Lee, who shot the same score in the afternoon of the same day.
Meanwhile, Crutchfield was recently name the “Big East Golfer of the Month” for the second time in her career in September, a month where she led the Musketeers with two top-10 finishes in the first three tournaments of the team’s season. For the women’s team, their best finish of the fall took place from Oct. 2-4 in Greensboro, NC, at the UNCG Forest Oaks Fall Classic, where they finished 2nd out of nine teams with a team score of plus 17.
For the men’s team, the highlight of the fall season has been the play of freshman Daniel Wetterich, who came into the fall season after a strong summer of tournament play.
Throughout the fall, he placed top-10 individually in three tournaments and finished tied for second in his first-ever college event. The team’s best outing of the fall season ended up being its first event, which took place from Sept. 9-10 in Columbia, Mo., where they finished third of 15 with a score of plus 19.
Both teams will now take the winter to continue their practice before starting up their season again in February.
The men’s team reopens the year with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Championship on Feb. 8 in Muncie, Ind. The women’s team reopens the season with the FGCU Eagle Invitational on Feb. 12 in Estero, Fla.
