Grammy winner Elton John will be pairing with Paul Rudnick in the Broadway adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.

A statement from producer Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions states: “To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story…we needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick…That’s all!”

John will be writing the music, and Rudnick will be composing the lyrics.

“I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world,” John said in a statement. “I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”

Experienced with Broadway plays, John has worked on Aida, The Lion King and Billy Elliot. Rudnick has worked on shows including I Hate Hamlet, Jeffrey and The New Century and the screenplays for In & Out and Addams Family Values.

The The Devil Wears Prada Broadway show will be based on both the 2006 film, which was nominated for two Academy Awards and grossed $326 million, and the novel, which was on the New York Times’ bestseller list for six months.

The novel follows the journey of an ambitious writer working for a difficult and intimidating editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep starred in the original film. Currently no casting decisions or production timeline have been made.
