Shrooms, Weed and a Camel: Amy Slaton of 1000 Pound Sisters Arrested on DUI Charges

36-year-old Amy Slaton, star of The Learning Channel (TLC)  show 1000-LB Sisters, was arrested on Labor Day for possession of drugs at the Tennessee Safari Park Zoo.

1000-Lbs Sisters follows the sisters’ weight loss journey. Amy weighed around 400s lbs., while Tammy was over 700 lbs at her highest.

1000-Lbs. Sisters first aired in January 2020 on TLC. The show only followed the two sisters at first, but in later seasons the whole family came into the mix as each member of the family went under a weight loss journey.

The sisters’ goals were to lose enough weight to undergo bariatric surgery. This surgery reduces the stomach size of a morbidly obese person and increase their rate of weight loss. Within season one, Amy had proven she was ready for the surgery while Tammy was not yet eligible.

One of Amy’s main reasons for getting the surgery was to be able to have kids. Her and her then-husband, Michael Halterman, conceived their son Gage less than a year after her surgery. Although Amy was happy to have children, her relationship with her husband was slowly falling apart. Her ex-husband filed for divorce in March 2023.

After long court appearances, Michael and Amy divorced and she got primary custody of their children. This is where the present situation comes into play.

On Labor Day, Amy and her speculated new boyfriend, Brian Scott Lovvorn, were at the zoo with Amy’s two sons. Amy was allegedly bitten by a camel, prompting a 911 call. However, the owner of the zoo suggested that Amy was not bitten by the camel as there are no records of a camel bite on that day.

She did receive medical attention, however when authorities walked by her car they smelled a pungent odor. When they investigated, they found both mushrooms and marijuana in her car.

Both Amy and Lovvorn were arrested on charges of drug possession and child endangerment. They were sent to jail and had a bond set at $10,000. Her brother, Chris Combs, picked the couple on Sept. 3 paying the bond.

Amy’s two sons were supposedly picked up by her sister, Tammy, after her arrest. The kids were placed with a family member while CPS investigates the situation it is unclear whether the family member is Tammy or not.
