By: Brent Raines ~Sports Editor~ When Brian Neal became the seventh head coach of Xavier’s women’s basketball team prior to the 2013-14 season, he inherited a program seemingly at rock bottom. Named the interim coach in October 2013 and the head coach a month later, the Musketeers were two years removed from their successes during the first decade of the 21st century. Women’s team reaches postseason

By: Brent Raines ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier women’s basketball team earned a trip to the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI), after second-seed DePaul knocked them out of the Big East Tournament. The Musketeers enter the WBI tournament with a 17-14 record(9-9 Big East) in head coach Brian Neal’s second season. They were the seventh-seed in the Big East Tournament, where they beat tenth-seed Georgetown (4-27, 2-16) before falling to DePaul (26-7, 15-3) in the quarterfinals. The 70-67 victory over the Hoyas was a minor milestone forthe program, which had not won a conference tournament game since 2011. Opinion: Neal ready to move forward

By: Adam Tortelli ~Staff Writer~ Coaching college athletics may be one of the toughest occupations imaginable and Xavier women’s basketball coach Brian Neal faced just that tough situation last season. Just weeks before the last season began, former women’s basketball coach Amy Waugh resigned, leaving the team in turmoil and Neal as the interim head coach.
