Obama and Trudeau meet for environment

By: Max Creager ~Staff Writer~ Last week, newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Barack Obama committed to specific policies that would help curb greenhouse gas emissions. Although Canadian prime ministers in the past had frequently visited Washington, the event marked the first official visit by a Canadian prime minister in 19 years. The two countries issued a joint statement on climate, energy and arctic leadership to re-emphasize their mutual commitment to the Paris climate agreement and lay out specific goals and policy proposals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and emissions of hydrofluorocarbons. Trade deal opens new markets

By: Regina Wright ~Staff Writer~ Negotiations that began in President Barack Obama’s first term for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have reached a final agreement among all 12 nations involved in the partnership. Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore formed the trade agreement in 2006. Later, Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Vietnam and the U.S. joined in the proposal of a trade agreement between these Pacific Rim countries. “The Buried Life” cast speaks to Xavier community, inspires and enlightens

By: Alex Spindler The Xavier Student Activities Council hosted a talk-back/lecture featuring four truly-inspiring men-for-others from a popular documentary series last evening. “The Buried Life,” a reality program that premiered on MTV back in 2010, explored the life of four Canadian men — David Lingwood, Ben Nemtin, Duncan Penn and Jonnie Penn — who dropped out of college.
