Mock trial hosts tournament

By: Erica Lampert ~Staff Writer~ The mock trial team hosted its first regional tournament on Nov. 8 and 9 at Xavier University, with 20 teams participating in the Queen City Invitational. Since the release of the case by the American Mock Trial Association in August, the mock trial team had been preparing for their cases and the tournament. “We put in an enormous amount of work for this tournament, but it was honestly never too much work and it was never overbearing,” President Annie Szendrey said. Club profile: Mock Trial

By: Maddie Day Xavier’s Mock Trial Club will face Miami University (Ohio) in a scrimmage this weekend and plans to utilize the experience of its six returning team members. The club also has six newcomers this year. Xavier’s Mock Trial Club participates in invitational, regional, super-regional and national intercollegiate competitions. In both practice and competition, club members participate in trial simulations where they are assigned roles as either attorneys or witnesses. Prior to trial simulations, teams are given legal cases and asked to prepare for their individual roles in each trial.
