By: Emily Lingenfelter ~Staff Writer~ Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is an annual campaign brought to the Xavier community through a series of events sponsored by local clubs and organizations during the month of April. A key goal of the movement is to educate students about prevention measures for sexual violence. A study by Hill & Silva (2005) reported that nearly two-thirds of college students in the United States experience harassment, and less than 10 percent of the victims tell a college or university employee. Title IX office works to prevent discrimination and sexual assault

By: Justin Worthing~Staff Writer~ Since its formation over the summer, Xavier’s Title IX office has been working to prevent and raise awareness about sex discrimination and sexual assault on campus. Title IX Coordinator Kate Lawson and her team have worked to make Xavier a safer and fairer place for students, focusing especially on increasing publicity and founding a stable advocacy network for students on campus. During her first 150 days, Lawson has spoken to over 1,850 students, including the entire first-year population, in order to increase awareness about her office’s role.
