Xavier Community Celebrates St. Francis Xavier

By: Saunta Anderson To observe the life of St. Francis Xavier, the university’s patron saint, Xavier’s Jesuit community and the Center of Faith and Justice sponsored events on Dec. 3 for community members, including a Mass, open house and discussion over tea and cookies. The events were an opportunity for the Xavier community to learn about St. Xavier’s legacy and his connection to the university. At noon, there was the seventh annual Mass for the Feast Day of St. Francis Xavier in Bellarmine Chapel. Student Government Association and Office of the Provost present “Light the Campus”

By: Saunta Anderson It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and for the first time, students are invited to help decorate Xavier’s campus for the holiday season. The Xavier community, including students, staff and faculty, are encouraged to attend “Light the Campus,” presented by the Office of the Provost and Student Government Association (SGA). The decorating event will begin at 3:30 p.m. this Thursday on the Xavier Yard. Afterwards, there will be a lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. outside Bellarmine Chapel. Smoking ban near Albers

By: Saunta Anderson The Office of Physical Plant announced last week that the fountain area between Albers Hall and Logan Hall is now a designated non-smoking area due to the cigarette smoke entering the Albers building. The fountain is located next to the outdoor ventilation shaft, where air from outside enters Albers. Physical Plant received many complaints concerning the odor of cigarette smoke, which spread throughout Albers. The laboratory classrooms beneath the fountain were also affected by the cigarette odor. Physical plant is moving the smokers based on state law and building codes.
