While not as extensive as Major League Baseball’s minor league system, the NBA’s Developmental League is a place where potential NBA players can improve their talent and showcase their skills to NBA teams. Not every NBA team has a D-League team attached to them, as there are only 18 members of the D-League.
One Xavier men’s basketball graduate recently received an invitation to attend the Canton Charge training camp. Standout point guard Dee Davis, the cornerstone of last year’s Sweet 16 squad, will attend the Charge’s training camp in an effort to make the squad. The Charge are the affiliates of the NBA powerhouse Cleveland Cavaliers.
During his career at Xavier, Davis amassed 494 assists, 133 steals and 874 points. The most notable moment of his stellar senior season was the dagger three he hit against rival Cincinnati in the Crosstown Shootout.
Davis guided the team through the NCAA tournament and nearly orchestrated the would-be defeat of Arizona in the Sweet 16.
Even though he does not possess an enormous stature, Davis held his own in the college landscape, and it will be interesting to see how his game translates to the next level.
