John Travolta, who has starred in popular movies like Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction, has taken on a new character angle for the silver screen. Portraying John Gotti in Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father, the megastar has been filming in Hamilton County, Ohio.

According to the Enquirer, filming the movie isn’t the only thing Travolta’s been doing in Hamilton County. After members of the Sheriff ’s Office Special Response Team for the county were involved in the filming of Travolta’s movie, Travolta and director Kevin Connolly visited the deputies to thank them for volunteering and were met with a surprise: both were deputized as honorary sheriffs of Hamilton County by Sheriff Jim Neil.

According to Journal News, the movie crew has filmed at Butler County Jail and a former jailing unit in Hamilton County. Travolta even made a brief appearance on Xavier’s campus for the shooting of several scenes. The movie has the cooperation of the original John Gotti’s son, John A. Gotti Jr.

Travolta himself has attracted some attention from Hamilton County residents, and the sheriff deputation has been a nice nod to his filming in the county. Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones told Journal News that Travolta’s crew is bringing money into the area.

“They have rented a place to park their vehicles and a local church to feed their crew,” Jones said.

Gotti is set to release in 2017.
