Student Government Association (SGA) will be hosting an event entitled “Your School, Your Questions” in the Gallagher Student Center (GSC) Atrium, where students will have the opportunity to question Xavier’s leaders and receive updates about the future of the school.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The event will feature a panel composed of Xavier President Father Michael Graham, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Beth Amyot, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Janice Walker and Associate Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer Dave Johnson.

The event was created in order to give students the opportunity to engage with Xavier’s administration in order “to truly create a transparent and inclusive environment,” according to a description of the event.

“[The school has] never had such a focus [on communication] as it has this year, so that’s interesting to watch that become more of a primary concern on campus,” senior Bridget Riley said.

Riley noted that there seemed to be very little communication from the administration during her first two years at Xavier, but it has continued to improve with each passing year.

The “Your School, Your Questions” event was put on for the first time in November of 2015 as a way to deal with that problem of a lack of communication from the university to its students.

“One of the issues there’s been is a sort of lack of information and communication between administration and students, especially student leadership,” Graham said at the first “Your School, Your Questions” event. “That’s fairly easily solved, so it’s just a matter of having someone come up with the great idea to do [a panel].”

The university has been doing good work in regards to its communication with the student body, according to Riley.

“I think it’s great that there’s good communication between the student and faculty branches here at Xavier,” Riley said. “I know that they’ve been working on that a lot, especially this year, about keeping students informed.”

The event will have free pizza and salad from Dewey’s Pizza, and students can submit questions online either through xavier.edu/sga or by tweeting @sgaxavier with the hashtag #ASKXU.
