Do you Live Under a Tombstone? The Walking Dead Saga and it’s Glory

By Paul Patras, Staff Writer

“The Walking Dead” is a show that has been around for a very long time, and has by now more than run its course.

It is known as one of the most influential components of film and media of the 21st century. By this point, the show has concluded, followed by multiple spin-off series coming out because of the show’s initial success. Especially with the spin off series Daryl Dixon.  Before this honest review of the initial success of the series begins, it is fair to say that there will be a few spoilers in this article, so stop reading if you have any interest in watching this series.

The third season of “Daryl Dixon” is right around the corner. The series follows one of the most beloved characters of the original season fighting for survival in France. Similarly, the new series, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” has Rick Grimes and his wife fighting for survival against the dystopian apocalypse in an alternate universe.

“The Walking Dead” has a cult-like following, with many people cosplaying characters.

“The Walking Dead’s” pilot season is a few episodes that mainly show the human experience when thrown into an apocalyptic situation. In this series, zombies have wiped out human civilization and the few remaining survivors are trying to pick up the pieces. Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Grimes was fortunately spared after being secured in a hospital while the zombie outbreak began while his family was being evacuated from Atlanta, Georgia.

The characters are not heroes. Before the apocalypse took place these were normal people working normal jobs. One of the most beloved characters of the show, Glenn, was a pizza delivery man before the apocalypse broke out. People felt like they could connect with these characters, added to an even more immersive experience.

The show gets you hooked with almost every episode ending with a cliffhanger and with multiple dynamics between the cast and the insurmountable odds that they face of fighting the zombie apocalypse. Another aspect of the show that not many people talk about is its duration with over 10 seasons. Viewers follow a cast of characters who you become attached to only to see some of them get killed off. What is most significant about this is viewers see their growth and development over years.

You see the loss of sanity of some of these characters. You see their ideals and ideas for what the future could look like change as they become more desperate for survival and you see how far people are willing to go to protect their loved ones. This show will make you question your morality.

Watch “The Walking Dead” because it is a dynamic series. It is so much more than just a show about the zombie apocalypse. It is a story about human beings who are thrown into extreme situations where their chances of survival are almost guaranteed to be zero and yet they somehow still manage to persist.
