By: Alex Spindler ~Staff Writer~ As classes and projects come to a close for the spring semester, the Department of Music and Theatre is gearing up with a series of concerts and events as part of its Spring Music Festival. Having started on April 26, the Spring Music Festival features a number of departmental ensembles ranging from choral to instrumental that showcase the breadth of student work and talent. MusicNOW Festival entertains once again

By: Justin Worthing ~Staff Writer~ The National returned to its hometown to perform at Cincinnati’s MusicNOW Festival with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Originally founded in 2006 by The National’s guitarist Bryce Dessner, the festival has been an opportunity for classical and indie musicians to collaborate and experiment with new music. This year’s festival took place March 11-15 and featured Sufjan Stevens, Nico Muhly and Arcade Fire guitarist Will Butler, among others. Inaugural XU Honor Band Festival succeeds

By: Aiyana Moore ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier community welcomed to campus a variety of high school students who all shared a love of music from Jan. 16-17. These students selected from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, came together to form Xavier University’s first ever Honor Band. “The High School Honor Band is a fantastic way for us to increase our visibility as a band and music program in the tri-state area and to bring many talented students to our campus,” Jim Daughters, the interim director of Instrumental Activities, said.
