Sexual assault case prompts pushback

By: Hannah Sgambellone ~Staff Writer~ As a result of the Brock Turner controversy, there has been a push to raise awareness of sexual assault. However, additional campaigns advocating for the rights of those accused of committing sexual assault have popped up as well. Recently, a conservative nonprofit called Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) issued a proposal for the removal of university guidelines for rape and sexual assault, stating the specific guidelines infringe upon the rights of those accused of sexual assault. Title IX screens The Hunting Ground

Xavier’s Title IX office will be screening the documentary film The Hunting Ground on Sept. 22 as a follow-up to the themes discussed in Slut Shaming, which was produced earlier this year. Slut Shaming, which kicked off the season for Xavier Theatre, was a stimulating piece by local playwright Trey Tatum that intended to evoke strong feelings about sexual assault and rape. Heroin epidemic worsens into 2016

Of late, the news has been peppered with stories of mass overdoses and batches of heroin being laced with elephant tranquilizers, among other things. Recently, a photo of a couple who overdosed with their 4-year old child still in the backseat of the car has rekindled the conversation about the heroin epidemic in America. Cincinnati is an increasing hotbed for heroin overdose. From 2004 on heroin overdoses in Hamilton county have risen by 67 percent and the problem isn’t going away.
