Track team opens strong

By: Luke Feliciano ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier track and field team had a successful first meet of the season in Fort Wayne, Ind., at the Mastodon Opener with a total of five individual wins and two school records. The meet included teams such as Butler, Miami (OH), Northern Kentucky, Ball State, IUPUI and Wright State. On the men’s side, senior Russell Platt placed first in the high jump and set a school record with a height of 2.03 meters. Track and Field keeps running

By: Adam Tortelli ~Staff Writer~ Xavier Track and Field returns to Cincinnati this week, coming off a jam-packed weekend of competition. Starting their weekend early, the team headed to Muncie, Ind. to compete in the Cardinal Invitational at Ball State. There they posted a slew of top-five finishes against major competition such as Kent State, St. Joseph’s, Ohio University, Wright State and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Top runners for the women’s team included sophomore Haley Jerabek, taking third in the 800m, and Sydney Larkin, claiming fifth in the 400m. Track and field teams hit indoor season hard

By: Isabel Smith ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in two weekend events during the indoor season thus far, taking down several school records in the process: the University of Findlay’s Oiler Opener in December and the two day indoor event at the Kentucky Invitational, Jan. 16-17. The Oiler Opener marked the start of the indoor track and field season. Zachary Polk set the new school record in the long jump, winning with a distance of 6.97 meters and placed second in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Nolan Daniels secured the 600-meter race with a school record time of 1:21.30, which beat the previous record by 2.45 seconds.
