The Xavier track and field team had a successful first meet of the season in Fort Wayne, Ind., at the Mastodon Opener with a total of five individual wins and two school records. The meet included teams such as Butler, Miami (OH), Northern Kentucky, Ball State, IUPUI and Wright State.

On the men’s side, senior Russell Platt placed first in the high jump and set a school record with a height of 2.03 meters.

Platt also secured first place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94, the fastest time in the conference.

“Breaking the school record means a lot. My current high jump coach held the record, so it’s nice to have something to brag about with him in practice,” Platt said.
