The victories included a thrilling last- second victory against Northern Kentucky and a close game against Youngstown State, improving the team’s record to 5-2-1. The Musketeers trailed the Norse 1-0 at halftime after an early goal in the 19th minute on Sept. 6. During the second half, the momentum would shift the opposite direction. Women’s soccer tops Purple Aces

By: Josh Bozzick ~Staff Writer~ The Xavier women’s soccer team opened the new season last week with a 2-0 win over Evansville. The victory was the second straight win for Xavier, which defeated the Purple Aces last year 3-2 in overtime. Senior defender Courtney Kobashigawa scored in the 29th minute. It was the first goal of her college career and came off an assist from junior forward Kenadie Carlson. Sophomore Emily Calvani passed to Carlson out of the corner kick set piece. Xavier soccer splits conference openers

By: Brent Raines ~Sports Editor~ The men’s and women’s soccer teams kicked off conference play last weekend, as the teams split their opening games against DePaul. Men’s soccer was victorious, with senior forward Calum Latham’s golden goal breaking a scoreless 105 minutes of play. The women’s team was less successful, falling 4-0 to the defending conference champions. Both games kicked off at 2 p.m. Sept. 26, with the men’s game taking place in Chicago and the women’s at the Xavier Soccer Complex.
