The Xavier women’s basketball team picked up a 70-65 exhibition victory over Division II University of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. Four Musketeers scored in double digits.

Xavier has gotten the best of the University of Indianapolis, winning four out of their last five meetings, including a 67-51 victory during the 2012-13 season.

The two teams have met in three exhibition games and a pair of regular season games.

The Musketeers were outrebounded 36-30, shot 41.1 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line.

Indianapolis shot 47.3 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.

Senior guard Shatyra Hawkes racked up 18 points, sophomore forward Briana Glover had 15 points, senior guard Ashley Wanninger had 15 points and sophomore guard Jenna Crittendon had 11 points.

Xavier won the second chance points battle 13-7. However, the Indianapolis bench produced a far better tally than the Musketeers, winning the advantage 25-6.

The Indianapolis Greyhounds also had more points in the paint with 32, while Xavier had 28.

Picked to finish ninth in the Big East, XU will open the program’s 43rd season against MAC opponent Ohio on Nov. 10 at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.

Head coach Bob Boldon will lead Ohio. The Bobcats are coming off a 6-23 season and finished 1-15 in their respective conference. Xavier interim head coach Brian Neal will lead the team in place of former head coach Amy Waugh, who resigned a few weeks before the 2013-14 season began.

The Musketeers will return home to Cintas Center to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 17 and Longwood on Nov. 20 in their first regular season home contests. XU will face the two teams for the first time in program history.

The 2013-14 non-conference schedule includes four contests against teams that qualified for postseason play, each of which finished the 2012-13 season with top-55 RPI.
