Arctic Monkeys – “AM”
The indie rockers released “AM,” a hip hop-infused after-party album laced with heartache and regretful lust.
The band strips down to its roots and balance genuine affection and sarcasm without tipping the scale. Arctic Monkeys’ “AM” is easily its best album since the band’s debut.

Chvrches – “The Bones of What You Believe”
Packed with clean notes and expertly-mixed electronic textures, Chvrches debut studio album “The Bones of What You Believe” has reached the crossroads between electronic dance and indie pop scenes.
Although still in the beginning of its career, Chvrches embraces contemporary synthpop notions and has listeners anticipating its next move.

HAIM – “Days Are Gone”
Combining ’90s R&B with Fleetwood Mac-esque rhythms, the HAIM sisters harness a tightly wound sound listeners have come to expect.
“Days Are Gone,” coming surprisingly through Jay-Z’s music label, Roc Nation, is a new take on 1970s classic soft rock.
Eclectic notions and a forward direction ensure that HAIM pays homage to its forbearers while simultaneously nodding to contemporary influences.

The National – “Trouble Will Find Me”
The National’s sixth studio album won itself a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, and sold over 74,000 copies in its first week on shelves.
Initially hailing from Cincinnati, The National is famous for its dark, yet relatable lyrics and frontman Matt Berninger’s haunting baritone vocals.
Pairing its trademark subtle indie rock rhythms and guitar with slight pop hues, The National’s latest album is arguably its best.

Vampire Weekend – “Modern Vampires of the City”
Vampire Weekend came back with its best album yet. “Modern Vampires of the City” reached number one on the Billboard 200 within its first week of sales, selling 134,000 copies.
Experimental instrumentals and memorable lead singer and guitarist Ezra Koenig create a dynamic album.

  1. Great reviews! Haim’s musicianship is tight and creative for such a young group of players. Julian Casablancas knows talent when he see’s it. Arctic Monkeys continue to be solid but i have to admit I prefer their earlier tunes. Keep up the thoughtful opinions and insight . – ST
