While many Xavier students traveled home for their fall break, many seniors ended up in Nashville, Tenn. This was not a GPS error but rather a purposeful decision made by many of Xavier University’s juniors and seniors to enjoy their break with the finest things that Nashville has to offer – those of course being country music, incredibly hot chicken and quite the Saturday night on Broadway Street thanks to an unlikely Vanderbilt victory. 

Many seniors stuffed into hotel rooms and Airbnbs in an effort to spend a bit of time on Broadway for the long weekend. For those who have never been to Nashville before, Broadway is an extrovert’s true time to shine. It is an endless sea of bars, honky tonks, street food and long lines of expectant partiers. 

 On top of the Xavier exodus, fall break happened to line up with Dayton’s senior week, resulting in many reunions of Xavier students with friends up I-75 as they both descended upon Nashville. Despite the influx of Ohioans, the lines were not as bad as one might have thought. Lines averaged about 10 to 20 minutes per night.

“It was crowded, but that is to be expected. I had been talking to people about fall break and a lot of them said they were going to Nashville. There’s sort of this unspoken thing that during fall break, the senior class goes to Nashville,” senior biomedical sciences for business major Ally Schwendeman said.  

Senior finance and management Nate Rauch and Schwendeman had some advice for the juniors who may end up going next year. 

“Put yourself out there and make sure to see as much as you can, and also make sure you invest into beverages beforehand to limit the financial hardship you’ll face after buying drinks at bars,” Rauch said. 

“It’s your last year and the last time you and all your friends are going to be in the same place at the same time without the real world being a factor. Money will always come back but time with people you love and care about won’t so take the trip and make memories!” Schwendeman exclaimed. 

There is much that occurred down on Broadway that one cannot discuss here. It’s up to readers’ imagination and skills of deduction to determine the type of debauchery that Xavier students partook in as they partied the night away. It is something that can only be experienced in person. 

“I don’t know if there’s one thing that stands out. It was a pretty memorable trip overall, but if I had to pick one the best parts, it definitely was the cookout being right next to our place for some late-night food,” Schwendeman said.
