Students remove on-campus hate

By: Richard Meyer ~Copy Editor~ The Xavier Community came together on Jan. 22 to celebrate the seventh annual “Break the Silence: Wall of Expression” event. Students, faculty and staff were invited to write hateful words or phrases that have been said to them over their lifetime on a wooden wall that was set up in Gallagher Student Center. “This event is an opportunity for students to express some of the hurtfulness and hatefulness that they have experienced in their lives,” Program Assistant for the Center for Interfaith Community Engagement Stephanie Renny said. Berta Rojas delights

By: Liz Slocum ~Staff Writer~ As part of the 2014 Xavier University Music Series, the Xavier community was treated to a solo performance by renowned classical guitarist Berta Rojas on Nov. 9 in the Gallagher Student Center Theatre. The two-hour program had classical Latin folk songs, waltzes and salsas by composers such as Manuel M. Ponce, Agustin Pio Barrios Mangore and Julio Cesar Oliva. This performance, which featured Rojas alone onstage with her guitar under a spotlight, was a listening experience most do not often have with guitar players.
