This Friday‘s Christmas Ball, run by Xavier’s Music Department, will allow students to stress less about exams and get into the holiday spirit.
The Christmas Ball, the first of its kind here at Xavier, will feature free dance instruction, refreshments (especially desserts), door prizes, raffles, silent auction items, and music provided by XU Ensembles. It costs 12$/$20 for a couple, and will be held this Friday the 13th from 7:00 P.M. to 10 P.M. in Schmidt Hall’s Conaton Board Room. It is open to all Xavier students, faculty, staff, and community members.
The purpose of this event, while providing the Xavier University community with holiday spirit, also provides money for the music department’s trip this summer.“All proceeds from the ball go towards lowering the student travel costs for our European Tour in May of 2014,” Lauren Holt, chairperson and coordinator of the event, said, “We are travelling to Salzburg, Vienna and Prague giving concerts in venues ranging from beautiful cathedrals to ornate concert halls.”
This Xaiver University Music Department sponsored event is student run. The members of the Fundraising Task Force include the chairperson Lauren Holt, co-coordinators Sean Reeves and Victoria Mairal-Cruz, and faculty advisor Dr. Matthew Westgate. These members hope to make their trip more cost-effective for their fellow attendees.
All of the prizes were donated to the cause; money raised for the trip depends on the number of raffle tickets sold to win those prizes. Raffle Tickets are one ticket for one dollar and six tickets for five dollars. In the raffle are prizes such as the new iPad Air, and Visa Gift Cards among other things. In the silent auction held at the door, raffle tickets will also be up for grabs. If you’re looking to buy a ticket (only 130 have been bought so far), you can do so here: https://commerce.cashnet.com/MUSIC-‐DEPT
Among the prizes up for grabs, music to be heard, company to be had, exam studying to be put off, and chocolate fountain to be eaten from, the Christmas Ball has it all. Come help support the Xavier Music Department make it’s dream of a summer trip come true.
