The Xavier track and field team opened up its outdoor season on Saturday in the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis. The men and women both had strong meets that left them with 22 top-10 performances. On the men’s side there were some top finishers in both running and field events.

One standout performance was by senior Russell Platt, who finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.84. Platt also earned second place in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters. Another strong performance on the men’s side was junior Caleb Hernandez, who placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 25.44 meters and ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.98.

For the women, junior Karmen Auble was a strong competitor in the throws division. Auble placed first in the javelin with a throw of 32.34 meters and second in the shot put with a throw of 11.11 meters. Sophomore Kara Robinson also had a strong meet, placing first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.74 seconds. Robinson also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.

Overall the team had some strong performances, but Coach Ryan Orner is hoping for a better outcome at its next meet in North Carolina, the Raleigh Relays.
