Celebrating the #1 Heart-Blob on Campus

By Maci Taylor, Staff Writer

Blue Blob is an icon. Blob is a legend. And Blob most definitely is the moment.

Blue Blob just turned 40 years old! Blue Blob is Xavier University’s most beloved and prized possession. Its distinctive rolls on the basketball court, 2-foot-long tongue and  occasional strolls through the Caf make him a hero in the Xavier community.

But turning 40? Perhaps Xavier will witness changes in Blue Blob’s behavior after hitting another decade. Blue Blob might undergo a midlife crisis. Watch out for it to be sunbathing on the Yard with a newspaper in hand more often.Blue Blob might buy a sports car for him and D’Artagnan to ride around the campus. Or, possibly, Blue Blob will enter the dating field, looking for a 24 year old Blob to love on.

Blue Blob and “D’art” have reportedly chosen to combine last names to Bl’art as a result of their bromance; they will become Blue Bl’art and Bl’art the Musketeer. They also now claim Paul Blart, the renowned mall security tactician, as a distant cousin.

Nevertheless, Xavier loves Blue Blob despite its potential upcoming crisis. On its birthday weekend, Xavier’s campus made it feel special. The Caf decorated all their desserts blue, Xavier Men’s basketball beat #7 ranked Marquette and the campus even rewarded Blue Blob with a three-day weekend! Oh wait, that was MLK. Thank you, MLK.

Yes, Xavier did a great job at celebrating Blue Blob, but how did it celebrate? I imagine Blue Blob had a grand ol’ time. Blue Blob probably had a bros night with D’Artagnan in the Cintas Center. They stuffed their faces with Skyline Chili, watched some college hoops and talked about their love for Sean Miller.

Or maybe they went out on the town. I can see Blue Blob and D’Artagnan partying at Dana Gardens, stumbling to UDF for Blue Moo Cookie Dough ice cream and then accidentally passing out on the Yard.  In the morning, they boot and rally to challenge the first-years to a snowball fight. Blue Blob and D’Artagnan win, of course.

But in all seriousness, from the bottom of Xavier’s heart, we love you Blue Blob!

P.S. Controversial side note: Blue Blob should be our mascot. What is wrong with being the Xavier Blue Blobs instead of the Xavier Musketeers? Nothing is wrong with that. It sounds just as intimidating as any other team name. Just look at the University of C****nnati B*arcats! No one even knows what a B*arcat is.

Let us honor Blue Blob by making it Xavier’s official mascot! It’s not every day you turn 40 years old! Although, that might cause major tension between D’Artagnan and it… I hope they can still be friends.
