The Xavier Cross Country team traveled to New York City to compete in the Big East Championship on Friday, Oct. 28. The women’s team finished sixth out of ten schools behind Butler, Villanova, Georgetown, and the eventual champion, Providence. At the front of the pack in the 6k was junior Madeline Britton, who finished 23rd with a time of 22:12. Britton has led the team over the past two tournaments, the Bradley Classic and the Louisville Classic, while breaking school records along the way. She had times of 21:15 in the 6k and 17:38 in the 5k, respectively, which places her in the top five times recorded in Musketeer history. Next up for the Musketeers was senior Delainey Burnett, who placed 29th with a time of 22:36. Another top finisher for the women was junior Allison Sinning, who finished 34th with a time of 22:47.

The men’s team placed eighth out of the nine teams that competed. Coming in first for the men in the 8k was senior Grant Parrelli who placed 34th with a time of 26:08. Parrelli, who was hampered this season by injuries finished with his best collegiate run of the year. Junior Garrett Knapik followed Parrelli, placing 44th with a time of 26:25.

Coach Orner was impressed with specific athletes at the Big East Championship, such as Burnett, Sinning and Parrelli.

Next up is the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisc.
